VICTORIA GINN: Explorer, Photographer, Author

Victoria Ginn is an ethnographic documentary photographer and author from New Zealand whose art depicts aspects of self within the intertwined contexts of landscape and culture.

An explorer and adventurer, she has travelled extensively and her documentary photographs portray life, dance, mythology, religion, culture, costume and ritual in countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Australia, Bali, Burma, India, Java, Kalimantan, Nepal, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Spain, Sumatra, Thailand, Turkey and Vanuatu. Victoria Ginn's documentary photographs of the cultures of Asia and the Pacific are copyrighted but are all available for sale.

Ginn’s photographic art is internationally recognized and her anthropological photographs have been exhibited at the Museum for the Performing Arts, New York, and are represented in the permanent collections of the George Pompidou Art Museum, Paris and art institutes in New Zealand (Te Papa, Dunedin Art Gallery, Dowse Art Museum). Ginn is author of three photography books: THE SPIRITED EARTH: Dance, Myth and Ritual from South Asia to the South Pacific (Rizzoli, 1990) and FREEDOM’S EDGE: A memoir of a photographer's journey and imprisonment in Afghanistan (Hazard Press, 2000).
